Santiago de Compostela
According to the Compostelas we received in Santiago, the official distance for the Camino Primitivo from Oviedo is 315 km. Our All Trails app shows our distance as 349.1 km. Maybe the difference accounts for such things as getting lost or looking for food or our albergue.
We visited the Cathedral but took no photos because of restoration work taking place to the interior. (Photos of the interior of the cathedral on shown in our 2015 blog.) The restoration is expected to be completed ahead of the holy year, 2021. Until then, the traditional Pilgrim Mass will take place at the nearby San Francisco Church at noon every day.
A drumming performance (part of the BateBatukeXI Festival) given at the plaza behind the Cathedral drew a large crowd. There must have been at least 150 drummers and what a great show they put on! There was a lot of gyrating going on among the drummers and the audience.

How will you live an ‘ordinary’ life after this???
It has been more than seven weeks since life has been ‘ordinary’ but I’m looking forward to fixing my feet and back …Not so much back to cooking, though. 🙁

Thank you! We used the Cicerone guidebook for the Northern Caminos but it isn’t as accurate or complete as the German guidebook (maybe a translation?) The John Brierley guide is best for the French Way.
