Day 26: Auvillar to Miradoux

Day 26: Auvillar to Miradoux

We loved our stay at Chambre d’hotes La Petite Inde (Little India) in Auvillar yesterday. Our hosts, Lashmir and Yvann, obviously love what they do. They work as a team, equally sharing all cooking and cleaning responsibilities. We would have happily stayed for one more meal, but we were off to Miradoux today, 18 kilometres away.

Today was a blank slate as far as expectations are concerned. All we knew was that there would be some manageable ups and downs and that the route was dotted with a few picturesque villages. It turned out to be better that.

We followed a mix of trails and quiet country roads over rolling hills that took us past a multitude of farms. We were totally immersed in farm life, watching some farmers tilling the soil with their big machines. Other farmers had already harvested their crops, leaving nubs of corn stocks. Fields of brown sunflowers as far as the eye could see were ready to be harvested. We imagined what life might be like, living in one of those farm houses, especially one perched prettily on the crest of a hill. What would winter be like here? Guess what song came on first when I decided to play music: John Denvers singing “Country Roads.” Serendipity!

Tonight we are staying in another wonderful place: Gîte et chambre d’hôtes Chez Vous Chez Nous in Miradoux. For the first time we washed all our clothes in a machine with proper laundry detergent instead of a bar of soap. What a treat!
